Review of SURVIVING PROGRESS (2012)

- Not Rated but has some disturbing images.
- Directed by Mathieu Roy and Harold Crooks
- Running time: 1hr 26min

A documentary that contemplates what may happen if mankind continues to progress.  It's bookended with an experiement that shows a chimp trying to set up 2 blocks and failing.  Then we get to see interviews with various scientists and important smart individuals.  It's all very interesting at first.  What is progress?  What does it actually mean?  And is all progress good?

Everything is getting used up.  All of our resources.  What's going to happen to us?  The movie tries to show that if we don't progress as humans, then we as a species are doomed.  And by progress, they don't mean technology.  They mean progress mentally by making smart decisions.  Are we capable of doing this?  Change will only work if we all change.

These are all interesting conversation pieces.  Debates will be inevitable after viewing this with a friend.  But after about halfway through, the movie repeats itself. I was getting bored when scientist after scientist was saying the same thing over and over again.  This movie would have worked much better if it was a short.

The Doc is well shot and presents many interesting factors, but it eventually wears out it's welcome by beating a dead horse.

** (out of ****)
